Vets2PM PMP® Brain Dump 2017 – Military Veterans
Note: As of November 2016, PMI no longer allows test takers to utilize the 15 minute tutorial to write down their brain dump prior to the PMP® exam. You CAN still use your brain dump, but you must wait until the exam time actually begins, i.e. once the 4 hours officially starts. Many students have reported that the exam has changed significantly and we often see many testers finishing ahead of 4 hours with time for review. Therefore, if you’re prudent and well prepared, you can certainly allow 10 minutes to jot down important items so that you can focus on the exam.
What exactly is the brain dump for the PMP® exam?
A brain dump basically serves as a quick reference – it can contain anything that will help you later during the test. Military Veterans report using a variety of acronyms, formulas, concepts, ITTOs, PM functions, and Page 61 from the PMBOK® which includes the Project Management Process Groups and Knowledge Areas (table 3.1).
Essentially, the sky is the limit here. Some testers write down more than others, and some don’t use the brain dump at all. Use whatever you find works best for your situation, but you need to make sure going in that you’ve practiced this enough to be able to write it down within 10-15 minutes (time is critical here). Vets2PM has a fantastic guide to study post- PMP® Boot Camp Program which includes daily exam brain dumps as part of the preparation.
Additional items you might include in the, PMP® Brain Dump (2017).
Team Formation Stages, PERT, Standard Deviation, 3 Point Estimation, Earned Value Formulas, contract types + responsibilities, Float/Slack, Point of Total Assumption, Types of PM Powers, Motivational Theories, Team Roles, Methods of Conflict Management, 7 Basic Quality Tools, Group Decision Making Techniques and also remember Business Case required for projects and Project Selection Methods.
